The Whisp Privacy Promise

Whisp is an offline-first, privacy-respecting tool for developers and vibe coders. We never collect or transmit your voice recordings, dictated code, prompts, clipboard contents, or transcription history. Firebase Crashlytics receives limited, content-free crash diagnostics so we can improve reliability.

1. Information We Do Not Collect

Unlike cloud dictation services, Whisp does not send your voice to cloud speech-to-text APIs. Specifically:

  • No Audio Streaming: Microphone audio is analyzed in local memory on your Mac using Apple's native Speech framework.
  • No Prompt Logging: The code, shell commands, secrets, or text you dictate are never transmitted to Horizam or any third-party AI provider.
  • No Cloud Accounts or Logins: Whisp requires no email address, password, or account creation.
  • Limited Diagnostic Telemetry: Firebase Crashlytics may collect device/app version, crash reports, and sanitized non-fatal error data. Reports never include transcript text, audio, clipboard contents, window titles, file paths, or source code.

2. Firebase Crashlytics

Whisp uses Firebase Crashlytics to understand app reliability. It may receive a Firebase installation identifier, app and operating system version, device metadata, crash reports, and sanitized non-fatal errors. We do not attach your name, email address, dictated content, or account to these reports.

Firebase processes this information under its own privacy terms. You can learn more in Firebase's privacy documentation. We do not use this data for advertising or sell it to third parties.

3. On-Device Storage & Temporary Files

Whisp manages local data strictly within the sandboxed macOS Application Support directory:

  • Temporary Audio Files: Any temporary audio capture file created during speech processing is immediately erased from disk once transcription concludes or is cancelled.
  • Local History: Whisp maintains a local history of your latest transcriptions (up to 250 items) stored on your local disk. You can search, copy, delete individual items, or purge the entire history at any time through the app interface.
  • App Preferences: Your preferred keyboard shortcut, microphone selection, appearance, and auto-paste settings are stored locally in macOS UserDefaults.

4. System Permissions & Purpose

Whisp requests the following macOS permissions solely to deliver its core functionality:

Microphone Access (NSMicrophoneUsageDescription)

Required to capture audio input when you activate recording via Option–Space, the floating widget, or the optional "Hey Whisp" wake word.

Speech Recognition (NSSpeechRecognitionUsageDescription)

Required to access Apple's Speech recognition service to translate audio buffers into text on your Mac.

Accessibility / Input Injection

Allows Whisp to inject your transcribed text directly into the focused application or terminal prompt upon completion. Whisp does not monitor keystrokes or read existing screen buffers.

5. Purchases & StoreKit

Payments for the $9.99 Lifetime License are processed exclusively through the Apple Mac App Store via StoreKit. We do not receive, store, or process your credit card numbers, billing addresses, or financial data. Apple provides anonymized receipt validation tokens to verify your entitlement.

6. Third-Party Websites & Services

Our website at whisp.horizam.com provides product information and documentation. It is hosted as a static site and does not use invasive behavioral tracking cookies. Links to external sites (e.g., Apple Mac App Store) are subject to their respective privacy policies.

7. Compliance & Children's Privacy

Whisp does not intentionally collect names, email addresses, voice recordings, dictated content, clipboard contents, or transcription history. Limited crash diagnostic data from Firebase Crashlytics may be processed as described above. We do not knowingly direct Whisp to children under the age of 13.

8. Policy Updates & Contact
